Detailed rules and controls
Controls
- Touch: ◀ ▶ at the bottom left to run, the big button at the bottom right to jump. You can use several fingers at once, and sliding across ◀ ▶ switches direction.
- Keyboard: ← → or A, D to run; Space, ↑ or W to jump; Esc or P to pause. After a clear, press Enter for the next level.
- You can still jump for a moment after running off a ledge, and pressing jump just before landing makes you jump again as soon as you touch down.
- The game pauses when you switch apps, the window loses focus, you rotate the phone or a dialog opens; after resuming it waits half a second before moving again.
Hazards & gadgets
- Spikes and saw blades: touch one and you lose a heart. Saws slide back and forth along dotted tracks, so time your move.
- Critters pace back and forth; land on top to squash them. Hold jump as you stomp to bounce higher, and your double jump is restored.
- Springs: step on one to be launched high, up to tall ledges or across wide pits.
- Moving platforms and lifts carry you along. Crumbling platforms collapse soon after you stand on them and only come back a few seconds later.
- Checkpoint flags turn green as you pass them; if you lose a heart afterwards, you restart from there.
Scoring
- Coins are worth 10 points, stars 100 and squashing a critter 50.
- Clearing a level gives 200 + level × 20 points, doubled on challenge levels, plus 50 for each heart left.
- Each level has a par time; every second you beat it by adds 10 points.
Saving
- The start of each level is saved on this device. If you leave midway, next time you resume from the start of that level with the score you had then.
- After running out of hearts you can retry that level with full hearts and the score you had at its start, or start over from level 1.
- Your best score and the furthest level you have reached are kept on this device.
Frequently asked questions
How do I get across a pit that is too wide for one jump?
From level 4 on there are pits too wide for one jump. Take off right at the edge and keep holding jump; when you reach the top and are about to fall, press jump again. The double jump lifts you more than two tiles higher and carries you safely to the far side, while pressing it too early or too late leaves you just short.
