Detailed rules and controls
Controls
- Touch: drag left or right anywhere on the field. The paddle moves as far as your finger does instead of jumping under it, so keep your finger in the open space below the paddle and it won't block your view. Tap to launch the ball.
- Mouse: the paddle follows the pointer left and right. Click to launch.
- Keyboard: ← → or A and D move the paddle; Space, ↑ or Enter launches; Esc or P pauses.
- The game pauses automatically when you switch apps, the window loses focus or a dialog opens. When you resume, the ball waits a moment before moving.
Scoring
- A normal brick is worth 10 points, a 2-hit brick 20 and a 3-hit brick 30; cracking a brick earns 5.
- Combo: the more bricks you break in a row before the ball touches the paddle, the higher the multiplier — one step for every 4 bricks, up to ×4. It resets when the ball hits the paddle.
- Catching a power-up earns 50 points; clearing a level earns a bonus of level × 100 points.
- Each paddle hit speeds the ball up a little (up to 16% faster); the speed resets when you lose the ball or clear the level.
Items
- Wide: the paddle grows by half for 12 seconds.
- Multi-ball: every ball splits into three, up to 6 balls. Losing some of them costs no life; you only lose one when all are gone.
- Slow: the ball moves 30% slower for 10 seconds.
- Extra life: gain a life, up to 6. If you already have 6, you get 100 points instead.
- Losing a life cancels every active power-up.
Saving
- The start of each level is saved on this device. If you leave mid-level, next time you restart that level from the beginning with the score you had when it began.
- When your lives run out, you can retry the level you failed: your score goes back to what it was at the start of that level and you get at least 3 lives. You can also start over from level 1.
- Your best score and the furthest level you have reached are kept on this device.
Frequently asked questions
How do I get the ball to the bricks left in a corner?
When only a few bricks are left in the top right and that side is already open, shift the paddle slightly left so the ball lands on its right end. The ball flies up and to the right, slips through the gap above the bricks and bounces between them and the top wall, knocking out several at once. Since it doesn't touch the paddle meanwhile, the combo multiplier can climb to ×2 or even ×3.
