How to play

Bridges gameplay screenshot
  • Islands with numbers are scattered across the board. Connect them with horizontal and vertical bridges: each island must have exactly as many bridges as its number.
  • A bridge can only reach the nearest island in the same row or column, and two islands share at most two bridges. Bridges can't cross each other or pass through other islands.
  • In the end all islands must form one connected group: from any island you can reach every other island along the bridges.
  • Drag from an island toward a neighboring island to build a bridge; drag again for a double bridge, and a third time to remove it. You can also tap one island and then another, or tap a bridge directly.
  • Every level has a single solution that you can reach by logic alone. Finishing a level takes you straight to the next, with bigger boards and more islands. Your progress is saved in this browser so you can pick up where you left off.

Detailed rules and controls

Controls
  • Drag: press on an island, drag toward a neighboring island and release. Building twice in the same place makes a double bridge; a third time removes it.
  • Tap: tap an island (a ring appears), then tap a neighboring island to build a bridge. Tap the same island or empty water to cancel. Tapping an existing bridge also cycles it 1 → 2 → 0.
  • An island turns green when it has exactly the right number of bridges, and red when it has too many.
  • Undo takes back the last step. Restart removes every bridge in this level (and can be undone too). Check marks wrong bridges in red. Hint fixes one wrong bridge or builds one bridge that is certainly right.
  • Keyboard: arrow keys move between islands, Enter or Space selects an island, and with an island selected the arrow keys build a bridge in that direction (Shift + arrow works without selecting). Esc clears the selection.
Solving basics
  • When a number equals the most bridges all its directions can hold, every direction must be full: for example a 4 with only two directions, a 6 with three, or an 8 with neighbors on all four sides.
  • A 3 with only two directions has at least one bridge on each side; the same goes for a 5 with three directions or a 7 with four: at least one bridge each way.
  • Two 1s can't be joined, and two 2s can't share a double bridge: otherwise they would form a closed group cut off from the other islands.
  • If a group of connected islands has only one way left to reach the rest, that way must have a bridge.

Frequently asked questions

Why can't two 1s be joined by a bridge?

A 4 in a corner has only two directions, right and down. Each can hold at most two bridges, which adds up to exactly 4, so both get double bridges. Now take a 3 with just two directions: they hold at most 4, only one more than it needs, so each side has at least one bridge. Build one on each side now and decide the last one once other clues settle it.
