How to play
A two-player Japanese hanafuda game. The 48 cards form 12 months (suits) of 4 cards each, graded as brights, animals, ribbons and chaff. The number in the corner is the month.
Each player gets 8 cards and 8 go face up on the field. On your turn play a card: if the field has a card of the same month you capture both (choose one if there are two; take all if there are three), otherwise it stays on the field.
Then flip the top card of the draw pile and match it the same way, or leave it on the field.
Captured cards score when they form a yaku. After making one you can call Koi-Koi to keep going for more, or Shōbu to end the month — but if your opponent stops first after your Koi-Koi, their score is doubled.
A match lasts 6 months by default (12 optional); the higher total wins. Online, each move has a 20-second limit; on timeout a card is played for you and auto-play takes over.
