Riichi Mahjong: four players start with 13 tiles, drawing and discarding in turn. A winning hand usually has four sets and a pair; seven pairs and thirteen orphans are exceptions.
Winning requires at least one yaku, such as riichi, all simples, value tiles or pinfu. Dora alone is not enough. Han and fu determine points; the dealer receives 1.5 times the amount.
A closed hand in tenpai may declare riichi for 1,000 points, then must discard drawn tiles. A winning tile among your own discards causes furiten: no ron, but self-draw is allowed.
Chi only from the player to your left; pon and kan from anyone. Ron takes priority. East games run East 1–4, with dealer repeats after wins or tenpai draws. Highest points win.
Abortive draws include nine terminals on the first draw, four identical first wind discards, four kans shared by multiple players, or four riichi. No points move and the dealer repeats. At an exhaustive draw, uncalled all-terminal/honor discards earn nagashi mangan.
